We are open for flash/micro fiction and poetry.

• Reading Periods: Aug 4 – Oct 10 | Jan 15 – Feb 12 | June 19 – July 11
• Payment: We are currently not paying our contributors. No submission fees are required.
• Promotion: Accepted contributors will be promoted on our social media.
• Simultaneous submissions: Accepted. Please notify us immediately if work is accepted elsewhere.
• Response: We promise a reply within 2 weeks.

How to Submit

General Guidelines

• Paste your piece directly into the email body (no attachments will be read). Subject line format: Your name_Name of piece_genre (Example: Olivia Wang_Umbrella under the sun_Poetry)
• We do not accept previously published work. That includes social media posts and blogs.
• Writers may submit up to two pieces in the same email. You may submit again three weeks after you hear back from us.
• Cover letters are optional. If you are including one, we ask that it is no longer than 100 words.
• We do not accepted pieces with any use of AI.
• When we’ve reviewed your piece we will include a short paragraph of feedback on your story.
• We will not accept work that discriminate on the basis of age, ancestry, disability, family status, gender identity or expression, national origin, race, religion, sex or sexual orientation, or for any other reason.
• We understand that some stories may include sexual content for plot purposes; however, we ask that no pieces contain explicit sexual descriptions.

Flash Fiction

We accept flash fiction from 501-1000 words. However, we generally prefer 550-700 words.

We are drawn to authentic work that captures human endurance: finding grace in adversity and power in precise language. We want sentences that provoke, that complicate, that doesn’t settle on a single interpretation. We want the length to serve the story.

Micro Fiction

We accept micro fiction up to 500 words.

We are drawn to authentic work that captures human endurance: finding grace in adversity and power in precise language. We want sentences that provoke, that complicate, that doesn’t settle on a single interpretation.

For this particular length, we want desperate stories. Stories that can only be told in this space. Every word must earn its keep, where the form itself becomes part of the story. We want pieces that couldn’t survive expansion, that would lose their pulse if stretched.

Poetry

We accept poetry of any form.

Any form, any subject (except our stated exclusions). We especially love: fresh perspectives, cultural and historical depth, and poems about mothers. We also like poems that are somewhat otherworldly and focused on little details we usually miss.
