The Outcast: A Refugee’s plea
By Alshaad Kara
With hell fire barking the logs out of the city,
We keep running here and there
To save the skin of our remaining flesh.
Dignity is thrown into that blazing wind,
Only as salvation the sacrifice of the scapegoats
To be inflicted with miseries.
Tiredness is not even a compulsory acquisition,
It leaks the remaining strength to evade further…
The enemies do not understand humanity,
As their aim shatters their own specimen.
Tears run shameful,
And screams are left unheard,
Erasing the truth from history,
As an unheard piece of the world’s map.
The secrets that are left buried,
Are the skeletons that are left preserved
By the untold presence of their souls,
Speaking solely for the injustice behold.

Author’s Note: My inspiration for “The Outcast: A Refugee’s Plea” is a vivid picture of how refugees have to brace through turmoil and disturbing conditions. I have tried to incorporate refugees from medieval times and those erased and found by archaeologists, as well as those of the present.
