Morning
(homage to Mary Oliver’s “October”)
By J. Nishida

Morning bears down,
grunting forth
procession of

Life:
a blossom of chickadee
a flutter of fox
a whisper of thicket
a snap of pine
a brimming of bees
a yawn of honey
a dazzle of leaves.

Supple-eyed,
Slow-mouthed,
words well
from the world
of her
throat:

Come!
Live!
Drink!
