Seizure
By Amelia Napiorkowski
I decide to sit next to the crib
the moment I have a moment
to sit and listen to each breath
it is happening again and I can’t
stop life from living so hoarsely
so sloppy and wet, how it began
like strange labored snoring
a flailing little shaking fist
and all that spit foaming
and I, frantic as I am, gathering
small growing body in my arms
weak and slumping down the side
small head to chest, silent and resigned
far-away look from those big blue eyes
and I,
and I….
thinking I will never hear
I love you Mama, again
